Dhaka University Leads Bangladesh in QS Asia 2027 Rankings

The institution places 136th in Asia and 16th in South Asia, according to its release.

Dhaka University has retained the highest position among Bangladeshi institutions in the QS Asia University Rankings 2027, according to a university statement reported by BSS on November 4. The university placed 136th across Asia and 16th within South Asia.

The rankings were published on November 3 and covered 1,722 institutions from 26 countries. The University of Hong Kong took first place, followed by Peking University. Dhaka University also held Bangladesh’s leading position in the preceding edition, the statement said.

Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam attributed the result to work by teachers, students, researchers and other stakeholders. He identified research facilities, international collaboration and the academic environment as continuing priorities. The reported ranking uses several indicators, including reputation, research-related measures, staffing and international engagement, rather than a single examination of classroom teaching.

Context: A university’s overall position summarises performance under one ranking system. It does not directly describe the quality of every department, the experience of an individual student or the outcome of a particular degree. Comparisons are most useful when readers examine both the methodology and the indicators relevant to their interests.

For the university, the practical question is how recognition supports improvements in research and education. For prospective students, rankings can be one piece of information alongside programme content, supervision, facilities and costs. The latest result establishes Dhaka University’s place in this edition, while leaving its future progress dependent on work across the institution rather than the ranking announcement itself. Subsequent editions will provide another opportunity to assess its standing.
