Shoukhin Theatre Sets November 10 Premiere for Paliye Beray

The production brings Manoj Mitra’s story of avoidance and responsibility to a Dhaka stage.

Shoukhin Theatre will premiere Paliye Beray at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on November 10. A report published by The Bangladesh Today states that the performance is scheduled to begin at 7 pm.

The play was written by Manoj Mitra and is directed by Hamidur Rahman Pappu. It follows Rupchand, a wanderer whose encounters with other people expose his attempts to avoid responsibility, relationships and the demands of ordinary life. The story explores identity and psychological conflict through those interactions.

The production is the company’s twelfth. Fazle Rabbi Sukorno is responsible for set and lighting design, Shubhashish Dutta Tanmoy for costumes and makeup, and Mohammad Alamgir for music and choreography. The cast includes Dipu Mahmud, Jabed Hamid, Joya Ahmed and other members of the ensemble. The published announcement gives the premiere arrangements but does not establish a continuing run of later performances.

Context: A stage production turns a written play into a shared live experience through performance, design and timing. The same text can produce different emphases depending on how movement, space and relationships are presented. Those choices will become visible to audiences when the new production opens.

The story’s focus on evasion gives the company material for examining both individual behaviour and social expectations. That is a description of its dramatic premise, rather than a judgement on how successfully it has been staged. Reviews and audience responses can assess the completed production after its premiere. Anyone planning to attend would need the company’s current ticket and entry information, as those details were not established in the announcement cited here.
